Fresh Starter, A New Chapter

How many times have you done something for the first time?

Something brand new, completely foreign? Maybe you tried skying for the first time or learned to swim. Maybe bungie jumping or climbing a mountain.

All these seem to be more athletic and adrenaline focused, not always my forte, but what about learning a new language? Or finally opening that new book. Maybe a new job in a new field? Maybe a relationship, being a first-time girlfriend, wife or best friend, sister, or mother.

There are a lot of things that we do for the first time. And anything you are used to doing, skilled at, or accomplished in, you had a first day doing that too.

First times can be scary, and exciting!

For me, I try to date my bible whenever I read it. In the upper inner corner, I write down the date that I read that page, even if it was only one verse. And over time, I can see the pattern of what I have read and what is still left to be discovered. For example, I have many dates written down in the book of proverbs, I don't know what I will do when I get to the bottom of the page, but what a blessing that would be to have run out of space.

Other times, I find pages that are empty of any dates. I have had my bible since 2019, and some pages have no dates at all! Many pages in my bible I haven't even read yet! How crazy is that. Sometimes with the Bible in our hands if feels like we would have exposure to its entirety. But it goes to show how intentional we have to be to truly open those pages and read.

For me, that blank canvas was the book of Titus. I opened it and saw the inner corner was completely empty. I had never read the book of Titus. And it was exciting putting pen to paper and writing today's date.

What I discovered in Titus was indeed a bite of daily bread. The words of God taste so fresh when you are enjoying them for the first time.

It is a short chapter, and I defiantly encourage you to read it.

In Titus chapter 2, It gives direction for Titus and for women. Titus 2: 3-5 NIV. "Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God"

As followers of Christ, we are charged to embody this behavior, to have self-control to take care of our home, to be kind and subject to our husbands to love them and our children. That "subject to our husband" part may be triggering, and that's okay it is still a battle for me too. But I find that I can worry about that after I figure out self-control and just being kind. How to not slander other people or rely on other substances. And I love a good excuse to priorities interior design of my home!

I hope to find a group of women to be a source of biblical mentorship, and I hope to be a mentor to women younger than myself, like my daughter as she grows up.

It is what we are called to do, to be active support for each other and to pursue goodness in our words and actions.

If today is the first day you and I are doing that, it can be scary, but it can also be exciting!
